BRIGHT HOUSE NETWORKS ANNOUNCES TWO EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES

Birmingham Ala. - January 29, 2009 – Bright House Networks announced today the development of two educational initiatives. The Bright House Network Scholarship Program recognizes high school seniors based on their leadership skills, academic achievements and community service activities with scholarship awards in the amount of $20,000 including laptops and other computer hardware and software. Bright House has also initiated a recognition program for educators making a difference in our communities. The Classroom Grant Program is available to area educators in K-12 programs who demonstrate creative learning experiences using cable programming to enhance the quality of education in our communities.

“The Bright House Networks Scholarship program is designed to recognize young people in the Elmore, Eufaula and Florida Panhandle service areas for their contributions to their schools and communities. As the cost of college educations continue to rise, Bright House Networks is proud to provide an opportunity for young people to further their educational opportunities”, said Karen Broach, President of Bright House Networks Birmingham Division which includes cable systems in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. “The students represent our future leaders and we are excited about the opportunity to give back to the communities where our customers and employees live and work.”

The scholarship awards include laptops including hardware and software. To qualify, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to community service involvement
  • In addition to the completed application form, applicants must include a one-page essay describing the importance of leadership and community service

All applications for the 2009 Student Scholarship Program must be complete and postmarked by March 13, 2009. Application forms have been mailed to guidance counselors at every high school in the Bright House Networks service community.
